Bismuth nitrate (Bismuth nitrate) is an inorganic compound with a molecular formula of Bi (NO3) 3 and a molecular weight of 394.98.

Colorless shiny crystal, nitrate smell, easy deliquescence, acidic solution reaction in water is decomposed into basic salt ((Bi6O6) 2 (NO3) 11 (OH) - 6H2O), soluble in dilute nitric acid, anhydrous bismuth nitrate has not yet been prepared. It is mainly used in the manufacture of drugs and bismuth salts, and can also be used as a catalyst for some reactions.

Bismuth nitrate is a colorless or white solid with nitric acid odor. It is easily deliquescent and easy to dissolve in nitric acid, glycerin, ethylene glycol, acetone and dilute acid. It is insoluble in ethanol, carbon tetrachloride and ethyl acetate.

Water is decomposed into basic bismuth nitrate, its molecular formula is Bi (NO3) 3 5H2O, and bismuth nitrate without crystal water has not been prepared.

The nature and the mercuric nitrate bismuth is very similar, can produce salt precipitation, the chemical properties are not lively, easy deliquescence and so on.

(1) bismuth nitrate is a catalyst which can catalyze hydrazine hydrate to reduce aromatic nitro compounds to produce aromatic amine, and its yield is between 78 and 99%.

(2) chemical reagents used in chemical analysis, used in the production of other bismuth salts and as raw materials for pharmaceutical products;

(3) commonly used in tube, paint, ceramic glaze and light metal surface pretreatment.
